Preserving our Legacy:  In the Alamo Chapter we meet routinely to enjoy the fellowship of our friends and fellow pilots.  The purpose of these luncheons is to keep our friendships warm and active.  We strive to honor the memory and common experiences we share through this association.  All of us feel our experiences in Vietnam were significant and noteworthy.  We all would like for our legacy and the legacy of all Vietnam War fighters to be remembered.  To that end, in June 2020, Mike Law had established a program of voluntary support to strengthen the legacy and history of all Vietnam Helicopter pilots and crews.  The two organizations chosen are not local - but do promote the icon of the Vietnam War, the Bell UH-1 Iroquois "Huey", the histories of Vietnam pilots, and their VHPA chapters.  The first entity is the American Huey Museum in Peru, Indiana, and the second is the Vietnam Center for Archives and Museum at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.  Our Alamo Chapter's records and documents are included in the Archives at Texas Tech, and our association is part of the VHPA history.

Many of us have other ways to support our history, and hopefully we will continue to do so.  As a way for our Alamo Chapter to have a constant collective impact, we list these two programs as a convenient way to ensure our legacies.  So, at our meetings or luncheons - if you desire to contribute and to promote the legacy of our Chapter and our histories - please see Chic Carter, the Chapter Treasurer.  He can accept your contributions, and periodically send your contributions to one or both of these organizations as you so designate.  Remember, none of us will do this every meeting or luncheon, but just when we feel we can and want to.  It all adds up significantly.

Thank you.  - - - -  Dale Stout, 2022 President, VHPA -  Alamo Chapter

Tuesday - September 13, 2022  Monthly Luncheon - Time 11:30 AM:  Hello fellow Alamo Chapter Members, potential members, and better halves;

Ray Vaske has gone to bat for the home team, and has come up with a
September Luncheon plan that hopefully will bring everyone back into the game!
The location of choice is Embers Wood Fire Kitchen & Tap, located at 819 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX  78232.  (They have another location off I-10, so do not go there).  This one is on the west bound frontage road just west of HWY 281.  They have a big sign on the frontage road and is located on the same property as Drury Inn & Suites.  This resturant features wood fired pizzas as well as steaks and hamburgers.  Ray & Kathy have been there a couple of times, and have not been disappointed.  Check out the menu on their website - goggle Embers Restaurant.

Ray is building up a new e-mail database for our Alamo Chapter Roster, and he would like for everyone to make contact with him - especially if you did not receive an e-mail from him announcing this luncheon.  Please let
RAY VASKE know if you plan to attend, and how many persons will be joining you.  Summer is now over, so hopefully many of you will be available to attend.

Thanks, and looking forward to seeing all of you.   If you have any questions, please contact me - (RAY) at one of the following:

2023 VHPA Reunion in San Antonio:  In preparation for the 2023 VHPA Reunion, your Board is asking you - our Alamo Chapter Members to be thinking about what would make an interesting tour to offer, or any special events that will be happening in or around our city during the July time frame.  We have some ideas already, but would like more input from you - so that we don't miss a good opportunity to show off our part of Texas.  We will be concentrating on collecting your ideas after this year's Reunion in Tampa.  Chip Brown is our Chapter's contact for your San Antonio Reunion input.

In order to better represent our Alamo Chapter during the 2023 VHPA Reunion, we would appreciate as many  Members who can contribute their time as volunteers - to do so when the call comes from VHPA National.  It is very difficult for National to man all these positions themselves.

Thank you!  We are a proud Chapter of pilots, and will do our best to put on a good showing for this Reunion in July 2023.    - - - - - - Dale Stout, 2022 President, VHPA - Alamo Chapter

Monthly Luncheon Background:
The monthly luncheon idea started in 2016 with the VHPA Ladies of the Alamo Chapter organizing their own monthly luncheons - just so they could have more time to visit and better get to know each other.  After a few months - the Men learned how much the Ladies were enjoying themselves, and decided to try and do the same thing!

Thus the idea for separate monthly luncheons for most months, then for a change of pace we plan both a Spring and Fall Combined luncheon.  All of these monthly luncheons are scheduled completely separate from the General Membership Business Meeting/Dinners.  So far – all of our Combined Luncheons have been at more upscale restaurants - because it  appeals to our lady folks.

Ladies who want to learn more about the VHPA Ladies of the Alamo Chapter - please contact Annette Whitney at Ph. (210) 260-3708 / anetlw@hotmail.com , or her backup - Janet-Anne Boykin at Ph. (210) 437-6559 / boykinjnja@gmail.com .

Note:
A Questionnaire was sent out to our membership requesting them to identify any given Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday that just will not work for attending our Monthly Luncheons.  The resulted matrix shows that Thursdays are the most difficult, but Tuesdays and Wednesdays are equally divided as suited for future luncheon days.

With this information, it has been suggested that alternating
monthly luncheons between Tuesdays and Wednesdays will give the greatest opportunity for the most participants to attend.

Details for our Membership Monthly Luncheons; General Membership-Business meetings/dinners; Monthly Luncheons for the VHPA Ladies of the Alamo Chapter; and our Annual Christmas Party will be scheduled separately by date on these pages.

VHPA Alamo Chapter Active Membership Dues need to be renewed ANNUALLY.  Life Membership is
always an option.  Current Active Membership is good only for (
January - December 2022)

Membership Status:  The 2021 Alamo Chapter Membership Status Roster listed 96 names that include all Honorary, Life, Active, Inactive, and Potential Members.  This number was down from the December 2020 Roster - which had a total or 112 names listed.  This reduction was due to eliminating  Inactive  and  Potential  individuals who had been carried on the 2020 Roster for more than 3 years - with no participation or no e-mail replies prior to January 2021.  On the plus side, we had an increase in new memberships since December 2020 - especially in the number of Life Members.  Effective January 2022, the Roster was again further scrubbed by removing  Inactive  names who have not paid dues in over 2 years, and  Potential Member  names who had not respond to Chapter e-mails in over 2 years were removed.  As a reminder, renewing or becoming an Active Member is still only $20.00 - AnnuallyOf course, Life Membership is always an option.  Just open the Alamo Chapter Membership Application (PDF) Form, complete everything that is applicable, and mail your Annual or Life Membership check to the address shown on the Application Form.
